Privacy Policy

How we collect, use and protect your personal information

Last updated: 12 June 2026

1. Who We Are

Home Energy Help operates the website homeenergyhelp.org. We are a lead
generation service that connects homeowners seeking renewable energy installations with
MCS-accredited installers across England and Wales. We act as a data controller in respect
of the personal information you provide to us.

For any privacy-related queries please contact us at: info@homeenergyhelp.org

2. What Information We Collect

When you request a quote through our Site we collect the following personal information:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Postcode and property details
  • Information about your current heating system and energy usage
  • For solar quotes: roof type, orientation, shading and roof area
  • EPC certificate data where available

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide to:

  • Generate and deliver your personalised instant quote by email
  • Arrange a free no-obligation property survey
  • Share your details with up to 4 MCS-accredited installers who will provide
competitive installation quotes for your property
  • Facilitate the installer selection and quoting process on your behalf
  • Improve our quote engine and website
  • Comply with our legal obligations

4. Sharing Your Data with Installers

Important: By submitting a quote request you are consenting to your
personal information being shared with up to 4 MCS-accredited renewable energy installers
operating in your area. These installers will use your information to prepare and submit
installation quotes for your property.

Specifically regarding installer data sharing:

  • We share your name, contact details and property information with selected installers
  • Installers are required to use your data solely for the purpose of providing you with
    an installation quote
  • Installers are prohibited from using your data for any other marketing purpose
  • We only work with MCS-accredited installers who are registered under the Boiler
    Upgrade Scheme where applicable
  • Each installer we share your data with becomes an independent data controller in
respect of that data and is subject to their own privacy policy

We operate a commercial lead generation model whereby installers pay a fee when a customer
accepts their quote. This does not affect the information we collect from you or how it is
used — you will never be charged for using our service.

5. Legal Basis for Processing

Under UK GDPR we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Consent — you explicitly consent to your data being shared with
installers when submitting the quote form
  • Contract performance — to provide the quote and survey service
    you have requested
  • Legitimate interests — to follow up on your quote request and
    improve our services
  • Legal obligation — where we are required to process data by law

6. Other Third Parties

In addition to installers, we may share your information with:

  • Email service providers — to deliver your quote (Microsoft 365)
  • Hosting providers — Render (application hosting) and GoDaddy
    (website hosting)
  • Analytics providers — to understand how our website is used

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain your personal information for up to 24 months from the date
of your quote request unless you ask us to delete it sooner or we are required to retain
it longer for legal or regulatory reasons. After this period your data will be securely deleted.

8. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the following rights:

  • Right to withdraw consent — you can withdraw your consent to data
sharing at any time by contacting us
  • Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure — ask us to delete your data
  • Right to restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data
  • Right to portability — receive your data in a structured format
  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests

To exercise any of these rights please email info@homeenergyhelp.org.
We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the
Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

9. Withdrawing Consent

You may withdraw your consent to data sharing at any time by emailing
info@homeenergyhelp.org. Please note that withdrawal of consent will not
affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. If you withdraw consent
after your data has already been shared with installers, you should contact those installers
directly to request deletion of your data from their records.

10. Cookies

Our website uses cookies to improve your experience and analyse site traffic. You can
control cookie settings through your browser at any time. By continuing to use our site
you consent to our use of essential cookies.

11. Data Security

We take the security of your personal data seriously. Your information is transmitted over
encrypted HTTPS connections and stored securely. Access to personal data is restricted to
authorised personnel only. In the unlikely event of a data breach we will notify affected
individuals and the ICO as required by law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this
page with an updated date at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
